How to baby proof all types of doors

Picture

Having a curious baby can be a handful if you don’t know how to baby proof your doors. You need to child proof all the potentially dangerous things in your home, and one of the first things are doors.

Here is all you need to know about baby proofing your doors and making a safe place from your home.

Is it really necessary to baby proof doors?

The answer is so simple. Absolutely YES!

It is safe! That is the shortest and the most accurate answer to this. Children are curious little beings and they are more than interested about what’s behind the doors, so believe me, your child is going to find out how to open doors and go exploring. And that is great when your baby goes from bedroom to living room, but what happens if the toddler finds a door to the storage room. With all dangerous cleaning chemicals and sharp objects, you don’t want that for sure. So, take the safe path as baby proofing your doors is very clever and simple idea.

Besides finding something dangerous behind them, your kid can also get his/her hand clipped on the doors. One more reason for baby proofing the doors.

Here are some different ways and types of doors handles you can secure, and also our recommendation for every type. Enjoy!

Round Door Knob Locks & Covers

If you have round door knobs, then one of the ways to secure your baby is to use baby proof locks for doors, but not just any lock, you should use round door know locks. This lock or cover will fit over your door knob (you don’t need to replace anything) and they are hard for baby to figure out.

What we don’t like about this:

– A bit too easy to pop off if not installed firmly

Lever Handle Door Locks

The easiest door handles to open is a lever door handle, and babies/toddlers master opening them in a no time. So, if you have this kind of door handle on the front door, it is time to consider baby proof locks for front doors. Baby proof lever handle cover is just about the same as for the round door knob. It will fit over the door handle and your baby will be secure.

Door Top Lock

When it comes to baby safety locks for doors, door top lock is one of the best. You just place it on the top of the door, and in that way, your child cannot ever reach it. It can be opened from both sides of the door and it is very easy to install. What more can you ask from a child proof door lock?

What we love about this:

– Simple latching concept
– Almost impossible for toddler to reach – Perfect baby proof!

What we don’t like about this:

– Need to drill a hole into the door frame (may be a no-no for some!)
– Not good for doors that you will open frequently (made of plastic) A more durable metal alternative – GlideLok Metal Door Top Safety Lock
– Yay: Made of metal hence more long lasting
– Nay: Double the price at approx USD $31 but if it last longer then its definitely worth the price! (click here to check the reviews)

SPECIAL – PINCH GUARD

This isn’t about preventing your baby from opening doors, its about protecting their fingers. Since all the children are very curious, their fingers often get caught when the doors are slammed. If you want to prevent painful injuries, pinch guard is the way to go. It is U-shaped and once it is installed on the doors, this safety device prevents a door from slamming, so your baby’s tiny fingers are more than safe.
